A fence erected along the tramway on Beijerlandselaan in Feijenoord is affecting trade for many entrepreneurs on the strip, who see it as an example of the municipal not listening to the concerns of its residents or to small to medium sized business owners. Designed to stop people crossing the tram tracks, it is also providing a barrier for shoppers. It means that many shoppers restrict themselves to one side of the street as they have to walk some distance to cross the street. Businesses on the other side that were once frequented are now losing out. The fence masks a bigger issue, one where many feel left out of the planning process. Most people were against the fence, but still it was built.
Our full report concerning entrepreneurs in Feijenoord will be published later in the year featuring this example and others.
