The Ronald van Kempen Urban Geography Fund was announced and signed yesterday at Utrecht University. The new grant is in memory of Ronald van Kempen and his work for the university as a teacher, professor, former dean and social geographer.
This new grant will offer young urban geographers at Utrecht University the opportunity to travel abroad to gain experience and to develop their skills. It is designed to stimulate scientific research and education at the university.
Faculty Dean Peter Hoekstra said at the signing of the agreement that: “Along with Faculty Director Chris Marcelis, we thought deeply about what would be a fitting tribute to Ronald van Kempen’s intellectual legacy as a teacher, professor and dean” adding “We consider it a great honour to have established this fund.”
We think it’s a fitting tribute to Ronald and look forward to seeing the results of the grant over the next ten years and beyond. The image above is from the signing yesterday with Ronald’s partner Dr Veronique Schutjens.
