The Challenge of Governing Urban Diversity was the topic for the DIVERCITIES PhD Summer School that took place in Vienna 3-9 July 2016. It was organised in Vienna by the Department of Sociology, University of Vienna in collaboration with DIVERCITIES project partners.
From all reports the Summer School was a great success. It was primarily targeted to early stage PhD students exploring themes and methods related to the urban diversity and governance. Twenty-four students participated from 19 countries with 20 scholars and practitioners from the DIVERCITIES project, along with several international and locally-based urban scholars contributing to the teaching and facilitation of sessions.
The seven day programme included a field trip, lectures, seminars with presentations focusing on empirical experiences, methodological challenges and a great deal more including a discussion of Steven Vertovec’s work on ‘Super-diversity’. We’re very pleased to report that the students provided a positive evaluation of the Summer School.
We will have a full report in our next newsletter due at the end of the October 2016. Sign up to receive it below.
